Approaching the Finish Line

Quarter 10 is now behind me, and with that milestone comes an inevitable realization: only one quarter remains in the program.

This past quarter allowed me to continue strengthening my counseling skills while also becoming more comfortable with the practical realities of internship. Over time, the rules, procedures, and expectations from the program and the internship sites have become clearer. What once felt unfamiliar now feels like part of the daily rhythm of professional practice.

Another important focus this quarter has been maintaining steady progress toward the clinical requirements for graduation. Throughout the term, I was able to stay on track with both direct and indirect work. As I enter the final quarter, I feel confident that I will be able to complete the remaining requirements. The program requires a total of 600 hours, including 240 hours of direct client work, and I am well positioned to reach that milestone before graduation.

Looking beyond those requirements also brings the next stage into view. Once the program is complete, I will begin preparing for the required state examinations as I transition from Trainee to Associate and eventually toward licensure. Knowing that these exams are on the horizon adds another layer of preparation as the program draws to a close.

Beyond these milestones, entering the final quarter raises several questions about what lies ahead.

Once I graduate and become an Associate, where will I continue serving? How will I keep refining my professional identity without the structure and resources offered by Palo Alto University? How will I maintain the relationships I have built with members of my cohort? And what will become of this blog once this chapter closes?

These questions point toward the beginning of a new stage, yet they are not completely new. Over the past three years, this program has asked much more of me than learning theories or practicing counseling techniques. It has asked me to grow in patience, humility, and presence.

As I stand ready for the final quarter, I want to make sure I can meet the remaining requirements while deepening my awareness of the person this process has been shaping me to become.
